
3-Color Stranded Knitting with Karel Chan - Sun, March 30, 12:15-2:15p
Level up your stranded colorwork game by — gasp — adding a 3rd color! Learn the
best way to arrange colors and manage yarn, how to incorporate color dominance, and
various methods for keeping a nice, easy tension. Once you master this, you'll be
unstoppable. You might even want to add a 4th!
Cost: $70 for one 2-hour session.
Required Skills:
Students must be comfortable and confident with 2-color stranded colorwork.
Pre-Class Homework: Please purchase the pattern and complete the following steps before class:
“Cast On and Brim” and Colorwork chart rnds 1-9

We’ll be working on the Tenderwood Hat in class. This pattern uses 3 colors at a time in
certain parts of the motif that allow it to be approachable for practicing this new
technique.

Finished circumference:
19, 21, 22.5”/ 49, 53, 57cm
Choose a finished circumference that is 1-2”/ 2.5-5cm smaller than actual head
circumference for best fit.
Length from top of brim to crown:
7”/ 18cm
Brim options:
Short (beanie style): 1.75”/ 4.5cm brim length
Long (folded, watch cap style): 4”/ 10cm brim length
YARN:
DK weight yarn
MC: 95, 102, 110 yds/ 87, 93, 101m
CC1: 30, 32, 35 yds/ 28, 29, 32m
CC2: 19, 20, 22 yds/ 17, 18, 20m
Stated yardage includes enough yarn to make a 4” x 4” / 10cm x 10cm swatch.
Yardage estimates are for short brim option. For long/folded brim, you will need about
50-60 add’tl yds of MC.
NEEDLES:
US 7/4.5mm, or size needed to obtain gauge, 16-20”/40-50cm, and DPNs for crown
decreases
US 5/3.75mm, or 2 sizes smaller than main needle, 16-20”/40-50cm or DPNs, for brim
ribbing
OTHER TOOLS:
Stitch markers, tapestry needle
