Explore and develop the fundamental skills of cuff down sock knitting with a cute shorty sock. This class will teach you step by step instructions for creating your first pair of socks either in fingering or DK weight.

During class we will discuss the sections of the sock, and work through the heel together. Touching on fundamental techniques like increasing, decreasing, getting the best fit sock, short rows, and grafting.

Cost: $85 for three, 2-hour sessions

Required Skills: Advanced beginner. Must have basic knitting skills - cast on, knit & purl flat and in the round, increasing & decreasing, reading knitting instructions, picking up stitches. No previous sock knitting experience necessary.

Pre-Class Homework:
Before you come to class, swatch (in the round) your yarn you will need to meet a gauge of 36 sts x 48 rounds for fingering weight; 24 sts x 32 rounds for DK. Gauge is important to getting the best results for your socks.

Measure the following: Circumference of the ball of your foot while standing with full weight on your foot, length of foot for best measurement stand with heel against the wall then measure from the wall to the tip of your longest toe.

Optional; with a piece of cardboard draw and cutout of your foot and bring it to class.

Yarn/Needles:
 
You may use fingering OR DK weight yarn - your choice!

For Fingering Weight Sock
• US1.5/2.5 mm needle or size needed to obtain gauge, either 4 pairs of DPNs, or a 32”/80 cm (or longer) circular needle. If you have used 9”/22 cm circular needles, this is
also an option but you will need additional pair of needles listed above.
• Approx 300 yards of fingering weight yarn

For DK Weight Sock
• US3/3.25 mm needle or size needed to obtain gauge, either 4 pairs of DPNs, or a 32”/80 cm (or longer) circular needle. If you have used 9”/22 cm circular needles, this is also an option but you will need additional pair of needles listed above.
• Approx 200 yards of DK weight yarn

Tapestry needle for weaving in ends
