Intarsia Cables - Sun, Oct 11, 2-4pm
If you already love cables as much as I do, have you tried Intarsia Cables? Elevate your cable knitting game by adding additional colors to your cable work! Join us as we unlock the magic of intarsia Cables —a technique for creating accent colors in your cables without carrying strands across the back of your work. The result is a fabric that's has a dramatic statement.
In this class, we'll guide you step-by-step through the the process of working multiple colors in one project while knitting a swatch together. Covering everything you need to know to confidently knit beautiful, intarsia cables in any of your cable projects:
• Managing multiple yarns/bobbins of yarn to keep your work tangle-free.
• Twisting your yarns to prevent holes and create clean color changes.
• Tackling the unique challenges that come with intarsia cables.
• Discuss tips on working this technique in the round.
This class is ideal for intermediate knitters who are comfortable with basic cabling and are ready to tackle a new challenge. We'll demystify the intarsia process and provide you with the skills to confidently create beautiful show stopping projects in the future.
Cost: $50 for one 2-hour session.
Required Skills:
Advanced Beginner/Intermediate (comfortable knitting, purling, cabling, reading knitting
instructions)
Pre-Class Homework:
Before you come to class gather your materials. Using bobbins or or a small piece of cardboard, wind your contrast colors onto 3 separate bobbins. Cast on 24 stitches with Main Color, knit 4 rows of garter stitch.
Required Materials:
- US6/4 mm needle - 32”/80 cm circular needle, or size needed to obtain gauge
- DK weight yarn, in 2 to 4 colors with visible contrast. One will be the main color and remaining colors will be divided up into bobbins for the cable work.
- Cable needle
You will receive a handout during class on basic intarsia knitting and photo tutorials.
You may bring your own materials to class or if you wish to purchase prior to the start of the first class, you will receive a 10% discount on materials, excluding patterns.

Makenzie Alvarez (she/her), is a full-time knitwear designer (Hanks And Needles) in the Portland, Oregon area. I have a background in fine art and an admiration for architecture. I enjoy creating classic & engaging knitting patterns that are influenced by my love of the arts and the beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
